GENERAL INFORMATION
The third cycle of "Programmes for Greek language courses"

includes "Greek language courses" for the acquisition of communication skills in everyday life, the improvement of the ability of social inclusion as well as the prevention of social exclusion of people, who are coming from socially vulnerable groups.

pre-supposes the possibility of successful participation in the second level of Greek language proficiency examinations, carried out by the "Greek language Centre" of the of the Ministry of Education - Lifelong learning and religious, after the completion of the programme.

aims at the full integration of all potential beneficiaries in a society of equal opportunities.
-
has been allocated throughout the Greek territory, in 3 region types, for the benefit of in total 8.400 individuals.
-
has been performed by the Certified Training Centers within years 2009 and 2010.
OBJECTIVE OF THE ACTION
- Promotion of entering of socially vulnerable groups in the labor market and of their integration into society, for combating marginalization and preventing any form of social and cultural disability.
- Learning of the Greek language and familiarizing its beneficiaries with its use.
- Developing the ability to comprehend and express in basic spoken and written language.
- Facilitation of beneficiaries’ participation in actions of Social Intervention Support Services.
- Development of skills which enable them to participate in vocational training programmes, in order to improve their prospects of access as well as their entering in the labour market and their integration in the society.
- Promotion of equal opportunities and the assurance of non-discrimination principle.
BENEFITING GROUPS
Persons eligible for participation in these actions are the unemployed women and men over 16 years old

Unemployed individuals coming from socially vulnerable groups (such as asylum-seekers, victims of human trafficking, etc.) whose insufficient knowledge of the Greek language hinders their access and integration into active employment policies according to their individual needs.
CO-FINANCE OF THE ACTIONS
The actions are co-financed by national and EU funds, in the framework of the European Social Fund contribution to the priorities of cohesion policy of the European Union for strengthening of economic and social cohesion and its mission for the achievement of a high level of employment by creating of more and better jobs.
The co-finance of actions is allocated in the following region types:

in the regions of Objective 1 “Convergence”, where the 8 “Convergence Regions” and the 3 “Phasing Out Regions” are included and

in the regions of Objective 2 “Regional Competitiveness and Employment” where the 2 “Phasing In Regions” are included.
GEOGRAPHICAL ALLOCATION - BUDGET PER REGION - BENEFICIARIES
The actions have been implemented:

in the 8 “Convergence Regions” (such as Eastern Macedonia-Thrace, Epirus, Western Greece, Thessaly, Ionian Islands, Crete, Peloponnesus, Northern Aegean). Total budget: 13.985.000 €, total beneficiaries: 3.671 individuals

in the 3 “Phasing Out Regions” (such as Attica, Central and Western Macedonia). Total budget: 16.220.000 €, total beneficiaries: 4.258 individuals

in the 2 “Phasing In Regions” (such as Southern Aegean and Sterea Ellada). Total budget: 1.795.000 €, total beneficiaries: 471 individuals
DURATION OF TRAINING PROGRAMMES
The Programmes of "Greek language courses" have duration of 300 hours.
The allocation of training hours has to be performed so that the end of the programmes coincides with the dates of the Greek language proficiency examination.
BENEFITS AND ALLOWANCES
The beneficiaries of the Greek language courses are entitled to a training allowance of 4,50 € (gross, per hour of learning), regardless of the fact that they are entitled or not to receive regular unemployment allowance.
The allowance will be payable to the beneficiaries upon completion of the training programme, providing that the trainees have participated in the second level of the Greek language proficiency examination.
Throughout the whole duration of the programme, the Implementation Bodies (Vocational Training Centres) are under the obligation to provide the participants with social security coverage under IKA (the Hellenic Social Security Fund) including medical and hospital care as well as to cover the participants’ nutrition and transportation expenses, where necessary.
It should be pointed out that during participation in the Greek language courses, the beneficiaries’ regular unemployment allowance is suspended and the duration of training is taken into account in calculating their total unemployment allowance entitlement period.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURES

Registration of the beneficiaries on the Unemployment Lists of the Manpower Employment Organisation (O.A.E.D.), in case they are not already registered (regardless of the reception or not of the regular unemployment allowance) and issue of a valid unemployment Card.

Participation of the potential beneficiaries in the Personalised Approach procedure for the formation of the Individual Action Plan, focused on their real needs, by the Labour Advisor of the local Employment Promotion Centres and their reference to the Vocational Training Centres.

Suspension of any kind of subsidy provided to the beneficiary by the Manpower Employment Organisation (O.A.E.D.).
The relevant suspension document has to be presented by the participant concerned to the Implementation Body (Vocational Training Centres) before starting the Greek language course.
